Butterfly expert Dr Simon Spencer will show how to identify a variety of butterflies through their markings, flight patterns, and other behaviours. Simon has a lifetime’s experience as a professional entomologist and has been active in butterfly conservation through Europe and Africa.
This is a classroom based event at the offices of the Shropshire Wildlife Trust, and he will explain the key aspects in identifying different species, even when they’re on the wing or flying around the tops of trees.
At later dates after the class, there will be the chance to put theory into practice with butterfly walks on various SWT reserves, and there will also be opportunities to become wardens on sites performing regular butterfly surveys.
